Golf Women Mean Business Starts Exclusive Event Addressing Diversity and Inclusion in the $84 Billion Industry

On Wednesday, September 18, 2019, Golf Women Mean Business hosted their Inaugural Golf SuppliHER Diversity Conference, a full day of information sharing, intentional inclusion and professional motivation at the historic East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, GA. The one-day conference, made possible by the generous support of Georgia Power, featured an impressive roster of C-suite executives, program directors and vendors conducting business within the $84B golf industry. Attendees had the opportunity to take part in informative and candid conversations on the opportunities, requirements and challenges in the world of golf from all aspects, including youth participation, barriers to entry and community involvement.

The program included panel discussions led by golf business leadership including Dr. Michael Cooper, We Are Golf Diversity Taskforce; Sandy Cross, PGA of America; Allison Fillmore, The TOUR Championship; Lauren Shelly, American Junior Golf Association (AJGA); Bill Walker, The International Association of Golfer Administrators (IAGA) and Layne Williams, Georgia State Golf Association (GSGA). Debert Cook , owner of the African-American Golfer’s Digest shared her golf business success story.

Notable Subject Matter Experts Dr. Georgette Fraser-Moore, Transformation Lead; Michele G. Morrissey, Lucidity, LLC and Marianna Whitehurst, Georgia Sports Hall of Fame were on hand to present nuggets of wisdom related to operational efficiencies, effective communication, focus and self-motivation. The program concluded with a robust and engaging diversity and inclusion roundtable discussion, presented by the PGA of America and facilitated by Gina Rizzi of Radius Sports Group. Conference participants represented a vast range of disciplines including technology start-ups, marketing/PR firms, and professional services providers. In addition to having an opportunity to connect with golf industry leaders, the conference programming also created the ideal climate for peer networking.​Patrina King, Founder of Golf Women Mean Business says, “Creating a diverse and inclusive golf industry has to go beyond playing the sport and discussions about the need to be more inclusive.
